25 babyJesusI’m thankful for the birth of Jesus, the Son of God, the Messiah, my Lord and Savior. Have you chosen Jesus as your Lord and Savior? I’m thankful for the gift of eternal life in heaven I have been given because of Him. Have you received the gift of eternal life?

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” ~ Luke 2:8-14

My prayer for us today ~ Father God, thank you for the greatest gift of all, Your Son, Jesus Christ. I pray all the world would know and understand the true meaning of this day, Christmas, Amen.

One True Friend

18 crossProverbs 18

An unfriendly person pursues selfish ends and against all sound judgment starts quarrels. Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions. When wickedness comes, so does contempt, and with shame comes reproach. The words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream. It is not good to be partial to the wicked and so deprive the innocent of justice. The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating. The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives. The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts. One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys. The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale. Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor. To answer before listening—that is folly and shame. The human spirit can endure in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear? The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out. A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines. Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart. A brother wronged is more unyielding than a fortified city; disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel. From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord. The poor plead for mercy, but the rich answer harshly. One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Vs 1-24

The unfriendly cannot see past their own selfish desires; only things concerning their own well-being sounds wise to them. When you lack judgment, you have no desire to comprehend the opinion of others. You only wish to force your thoughts and ideas onto others.

The book of Proverbs talks a lot about the fool. So I decided to look up the word fool in the dictionary to get a better sense of what is meant when calling someone a fool. The definition for fool is ‘stupid or ridiculous person’. I think I have the right idea what a fool is. Next, I decided to look up some synonyms for fool so I would have other word choices. This made my day! Here are some of the words I came across: blockhead, buffoon, dimwit, fathead, halfwit, ignoramus and my all time favorite, nincompoop. Now that’s a funny word. Too bad it’s not a word to bring a cheerful heart. I almost like it as much as my all time favorite word discombobulated.

Moving on……Giving of your time, offering your talents or giving monetarily does more that help the one receiving. The giver is given the gift of a cheerful heart. The act of giving is pleasing to God. Obediently giving, as called by God, is rewarded with honor and respect.

Even if we know many powerful, well-known, highly respected people throughout our life, we can leave this world not knowing a soul. There’s only one person we need to meet and have a relationship with to have a full life filled with amazing things. It’s Jesus Christ. The Son of God. My Lord and Savior. Have you met Him yet? If you haven’t, I’d love to introduce you to Him.

My prayer for us today ~ Father God, thank you for loving us so much, you sent your one and only Son, Jesus, to die for us. I pray we would give you the praise, honor and glory you rightfully deserve for giving this amazing, loving gift, Amen
